Our story began in a small country town in Illinois in February of 2006. What began as a weekly 'jam' night at Omer Miller's barn in Cadwell, IL quickly became the talk of the town as musicians gathered to play music and enjoy each others company. The sound quality of the structure wasn't very good, so burlap gunny sacks were hung on the walls and ceiling to make it better. From that moment on the group became known as the Gunny Sack Revue. Word spread around the community and people began to come out just to sit and listen to the musicians. The group grew quickly and soon needed more space, so the we rented a building in Arthur, IL where the Gunny Sack Revue still plays today. Philo Schrock (one of the founding members) and myself Matt Gingerich (I joined the group in July of 2006) have become best of friends throughout this journey with the Gunny Sack Revue. Several years ago Philo began a battle with Lymphoma cancer. He is currently in remission, but the effects from this disease has taken a dramatic toll on him. The illness also brought a great reminder that we are on God's clock not our own, so Philo and myself decided to put together an album of some of our favorite cover songs and some of our own originals. We asked our some of our friends who are fellow Gunny Sack Musicians and also make up the bluegrass band (Herschbergers & Friends) to help us with the album. Then we contacted Mr. Phil Bankester from the bluegrass band 'The Bankester Family' to see if he could do the recording and mastering of our album. After getting the ok from Phil in April of 2013 we began the musical journey that has now become the album called Hickory Wind. This journey and the songs on this album have been a blessing to us, and we hope the album is a blessing to you as well. Thank you in advance for your purchase and support.
