I drove north on Washington Avenue in Detroit and saw Dead Skyscrapers all around me. It was like a post-modern forest of tatted-up structures left behind by a native race of river people. They had their apocalypse. They vanished into the surrounding marshes and woods to start new tribes, untroubled by the confusion of diversity, the sounds of music and engines and steel. They exploded outward into all directions, leaving the towers they built crumbling behind them, like God was expelling the tribes of Babel for a second time. 'Dead Skyscrapers' (the band and the album) is about the frustrations and wanderings of adulthood, serial relationship troubles, financial collapse, betrayals and redemptions. It's a drive through the landscape of desolated intentions and high promises. Dead Skyscrapers began in 2008 as an Art Rock studio project between Hamtramck, MI songwriter Matthew Sisco (former guitarist of 'Serra' and 'The Walkers') and Producer, Michael Allen Moore ('Tin Scribble" leader and former guitarist of 'House of Usher"). Bassist, Rick West and drummer RJ Lambert round out the core lineup. The self-titled debut album was recorded and mixed in 2013 by the band in Moore's home studio. Uninterrupted studio time lent itself to genre-bending musical exploration. "Dead Skyscrapers' revisits the spirit of early David Bowie, Queen and Led Zeppelin. It moves from the amped up Soul of 'Soon as I Can" to the Power-Pop of 'HI FI' and "Smoke",then on to theatrical Post Punk territories with numbers like 'Traveling Sound', 'Run Down' and "White". The work went from an understated solo effort to a lush, groovy and brave expression of Rock music.
