A closet writer and poet, Jason D. Heminger dabbled with music sparsely and unintentionally for years. In the winter of 2012, fate landed him in a horse barn in Colorado. It was here that he started writing his guttural and soaring, lyrically-focussed music, and soon after, started honing his craft as a song-writer and performer in the Denver area. In the spring of 2013, under the moniker of Sporty Lee, he started recording his first full-length record, Allotropes, under the able direction of producers Aaron Spiro and Nate Daley at Golden Kitty Studios in Tacoma, Wa. There, he melded his powerful and ethereal lyrics and folk/rock sensibilities with Daley's psychedelic complexities and Spiro's graceful dedication to perfect sound. The result is like a primal punch-in-the-gut blast of folk and blues-rock that invites you back up to the bar for a drink and an existential pondering of life's purpose. Allotropes, released January 2014, is distinctly reminiscent of 60's and 70's flavors, but a definitively new animal, altogether.
