Born and raised in Lage, Germany, Ms. Welge started singing in a church choir at the age of 5, and grew up performing the works of Bach, Handel and Haydn. She left her native Germany to study voice with long time Metropolitan Opera veteran Ariel Bybee in NYC. In NYC Ms. Welge sang the roles of Elizabeth and Venus in Tannhauser, and Sieglinde and Gerhilde in Die Walkure under the baton of David Gilbert at the Mannes Wagner Program. She also sung the role of Elsa (excerpts) in Lohengrin in concert. Previous roles performed include Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, The First Lady in Die Zauberflote, and the role of Mother Marie in Dialogues of the Carmelites under the direction of Ariel Bybee and Tyler White conducting. Ms. Welge is also establishing herself as a concert artist. She has sung concerts at the German Consulate in NYC, the Theodore Roosevelt Birthplace, Manhattan School of Music, and a concert of the Wesendonck Lieder at Mannes School of Music. Ms. Welge has also started to extend her concert performances into Germany, where she sang a Benefit Concert in support of orphaned children in Romania. Ms Welge recently sung an all Wagner concert at the Bromeley Theater at UPB in Bradford, and was featured at the 50th Anniversary Gala at the Bromeley Theater in honor of Marilyn Horne and in support of the Marilyn Horne Archive Collection Project at UPB. Ms. Welge is planning a future CD recording with Leszek Maria Wojcik, Recording Studio Manager at Carnegie Hall, at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in NYC.
