A successful crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter culminated in Nikki's latest solo album, Longings, which was released in November 2013. Longings is an artistic leap forward from her self-titled debut solo EP, both musically and lyrically. Through an eclectic group of songs (blending elements of acapella, jazz, pop, r&b, and even drum & bass), Longings points to the fact that every situation we face in life ultimately stirs up a longing for home. Longings is a blend of Jill Scott's silky vocals, Laura Mvula's unique vocal and musical arrangements, and Bjork's love of instrumental experimentation. Featuring jazz violinist Zach Brock (Snarky Puppy, Stanley Clarke) on 'Plea,' 'Seasons,' and 'Home' & bassist Michael League (Snarky Puppy) on 'Seasons' 'Longings has been a journey that has breathes so much life into me as an artist. What a joy to have the opportunity to record a set of songs that have been born out of my experiences, as well as a Psalm that I read where the author said, 'My whole body longs for you in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.' Life can kind of feel like that sometimes.
