Carolina Brandes, vocalist, pianist, composer, arranger and lyricist, a Berklee College of Music graduate, has grown up between the artistic environments of Berlin, Rome and NYC. Her music is hard to classify; attempts have been Crossover, Avant-garde Funk, Electric Jazz. It is a fusion; to be though intended in the most authentic and radical sense of the term, namely as an artistic synthesis of a polyglot creativity that incorporates naturally the concept of contamination blending a vast variety of musical styles ranging from Jazz to Funk, from Gospel to Flamenco, from R&B to Rock, from Scat to Rap. The cultural and musical cosmopolitism is also evident by the lyrics: collages in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian & Portuguese, never banal & gifted with passional strength of commitment. 'Flowers of the deeper soil' is a double CD of 21 original compositions. A monumental project that has taken long time to ' architect'. It features an All Star Band of 20 musicians, among others, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Robin Eubanks and drummer and co-producer Davide Pettirossi. Though well aware and respectful of the Jazz tradition, Carolina's music is a fierce, audacious, dramatically playful jump towards new musical horizons!
