This nine CD box set features the Complete Columbia Studio Albums Collection from 1951-1955 by the revered composer, pianist and band leader, Duke Ellington (1899-1974). A major figure in the history of jazz, Ellington's talents extended into the realms of blues, gospel, film scores, classical and popular music in general. His glittering career spanned over 50 years during which time he composed a songbook of some of the most iconic songs of our time and led his world-famous orchestra. Ellington’s influence on jazz--which he preferred to call ‘American Music’--and popular music in general has been far-reaching. He is as well known for his collaborations with composer-arranger-pianist, Billy Strayhorn and worked with all the leading musicians of the day. Evergreen tracks here include: "Mood Indigo", "Sophisticated Lady", "Take The A Train", "It Don’t Mean A Thing", "Willow Weep For Me", "The Peanut Vendor", "Indian Love Call" and "Body and Soul", to name but a few.
