Avril Lavigne ist zurück: Nachdem die 22-jährige in diesem Jahr bereits mit "Keep Holding On" (ihrem Soundtrack-Beitrag zum Fantasy-Blockbuster "Eragon") ihr Händchen für große Powerballaden demonstrierte, gibt's als erste offizielle Single-Veröffentlichung des Jahres nun wieder Uptempo-Rock-mäßig ordentlich was auf die Ohren. "Girlfriend" (VÖ: 30.03.) schrieb und produzierte Avril zusammen mit Dr. Luke (Kelly Clarkson, P!nk etc.). Es ist die Vorabsingle zum dritten Album der Kanadierin, das den Titel "The Best Damn Thing" tragen wird und am 13. April erscheint.

Das neue Album schrieb und produzierte sie u.a. mit ihren bewährten Kollaborationspartnern Butch Walker (Bowling For Soup, P!nk, Hot Hot Heat, The Donnas u.a.) und Lukasz Sebastian Gottwald alias Dr. Luke. Außerdem beteiligt: Rob Cavallo (Green Day, My Chemical Romance u.a.) und Avrils Ehemann Deryck Whibley (Sum 41).
