From our first production meeting, James Shirey and I knew we had a special bond. To say we were on the same page would be an under statement. It also helped that James not only owns a first class recording studio (Griffith Park Recorders) but is a master musician, playing all the keyboards and violin tracks. I had picked the songs I wanted to record but by the time we got to the basic tracks I'd written five new ones. The players we asked to work with us did more than 'phone in' their parts and quickly got into the heart of the songs. Jaydee, Rick, Michael, Dave, Dan and Alex, were all encouraged to input their ideas and it shows in the final outcome. During the sessions we took to calling ourselves the 'Neon Sinners' and some incarnation of this group will eventually solidify into our live performance band. I've spent half my life playing in bars and I observe and write about it. I don't make this stuff up. I just call it like I see it. For me not to write this way would be a lie. I write about life and love, things that give me joy and things that make me angry, things that make me laugh and things that makeme cry. And some of my songs are about cheatin' and drinkin'. I guess I feel like a war correspondent, bringing you a glimpse of life you might not otherwise see. As you listen to this CD, welcome to my world.
