In November 1995 selected arias from Johann Philipp Krieger's comprehensive oeuvre
were performed at the Weissenfels palace's church and recorded for this CD Lieben und
geliebet werden.
Krieger worked at the court in Weissenfels for over 40 years, and the residential
palace gained a musical reputation far beyond Central Germany's borders under his
direction.
A brief story revolving around the theme of love, taken from Krieger's own publications
from the years 1690 and 1692, lies hidden in the pieces a veritable treasure chest of
Central German Baroque operatic art!
The distinguished Lautten Compagney masters of early music accompany
soloists Mona Spägele (soprana), Wilfried Jochens (tenor) and Wolf Matthias Friedrich
(bass), conducted by Wolfgang Katschner.
