PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNGEN
I have been playing guitar since the age of 12: this CD privileges my "slide" part; I used a series of instruments, both new and "vintage", and a variety of different tunings. Blue Zephyr 1 & 2: on a Weissenborn koa wood guitar tuned to E G D G B D Hidden Shores: another piece on the Weissenborn in E G D G B D with a clear Hawaiian flavour The Mill by the River: in the open air, by a stream, with a Hawaiian tiple, an old-fashioned American slide instrument Hawaiian Spleen and How Much Sweetness Extends: these two tracks, a tango and a little waltz, each tender and a bit simple, were composed by Manlio Biagi, one of very few Italian Hawaiian guitarists. He was active during the 1920s and 1930s between the two world wars. I play a vintage Oahu square neck guitar from the same period with open G tuning Diddlebow Blues: the diddlebow is a one-stringed steel guitar with a tin can for a resonator. Here 50 seconds are more than enough Tricone Open G Suite: here I use a wood body tricone from Italian luthiery Moonrise Waltz. The passage is played on a Weissenborn made of sapele (an exotic hardwood) in C G C G C E Parata dei Soldatini di Piombo (Tin Soldiers' Parade): played on a six-string banjo in dropped D tuning with a partial capo on the second fret from the sixth to the second string Jamaica Farewell: I've always loved this beautiful song, and I created this arrangement for electric lap steel in open D Serenade: a piece by American guitarist and composer Philip Rosheger, adapted for the Weissenborn in open D Nuvole Lente (Slow Clouds): another piece for the electric lap steel in open D The Strenuous Life: composed in 1896, this is one of Scott Joplin's best rags. I play it here on a six-string banjo in drop D Rosita Suite: Three pieces in drop D performed with a wonderful vintage 1938 Rosita I Will: This enchanting Beatles song also sounds lovely arranged for the Weissenborn in E G D G B D Shaman Blues: the blues show up in many tunes, as they do in this piece performed on a fretless nylon string guitar with standard tuning Harrison's Landing: and to close, the title track on an Omnichord Suzuki (an electronic auto-harp)
