PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNGEN
Some people start out early as singers and poets and then find themselves detoured in life -- to engineering and corporate work: 'The stuff that society deems has value, and therefore, worth.' Jennifer Comeau was one of these people; and you will be glad she has found her way back to the road of her soul. Comeau's allure as a songwriter is the honesty and universality of her messages. "My songs are stories - born of dreams, and layered with the experience of living. I believe your stories and my stories are often the same; they are just cast in different hues." With a voice that is like instrument itself -- pleasing, rangy, brimming with emotion -- Comeau is hard to pigeonhole into one category: At times, ethereal like Dido or Sarah McLachlan; at other times rocking like Susan Tedeschi or Sheryl Crow -- she is versatile and she touches what she reaches for. Recorded at Port-Media (port-media.com) and mastered by Jonathan Wyner of M-Works, Inc. in Cambridge, 'She Flies' features eleven original songs and one traditional Irish song, "The Parting Glass", dedicated to her father, Gordon Elwell, who passed away a year ago. Veteran New England-area musicians Rob Duquette, Chris Humphrey, Don Wessels, and Delilah Poupore were each invited to arrange tracks on the album, which makes it both interesting and eclectic. On the festive side, Comeau's "Making the Rules", showcases the Latin/Cuban rhythms of Rob Duquette on percussion against a message of "Skipping work and my endless TO-Dos". Other uptempo tunes include, "Tahoe Love Story", "Quiet Contemplation" and "Grief, Grit and Grace", a song about her recent service trip to Haiti. Comeau's rich low register is prominent in, "Something's Gotta' Yield" suggesting Comeau and the blues are indeed a worthy combination. At her most bittersweet, Comeau's "For Julie" describes her twin sister's sudden life-upheaval upon learning her husband was leaving her." The song's spare arrangement is hauntingly punctuated with a cello performance by Juliet Altham. Similarly, "Kite String" is a beautifully peaceful love song to her husband, John, and features stand-out harmonies from Delilah Poupore and elegant lead guitar by Neal Zweig. In launching this second music CD Jennifer once again invites us to contribute to a cause greater than our own. At least 20% of her proceeds go toward causes that cultivate the work of land and animal protection, or foster a spirit of courage, resiliency and hope among those facing difficult life circumstances. To date, Jennifer has donated more than $15,000 to charitable causes directly from the sales of her CDs and performances. Now THAT profession has value and worth.
