Celebrate World Music! Was a world premiere concert featuring original works by eight composers, with 11 solo artists playing traditional instruments from around the world, accompanied by the NW Sinfonia orchestra, and conducted by Grammy-winner David Sabee. This concert was held on Sunday, March 24, at the Nordstrom Recital Hall at Benaroya Hall in Seattle. Eight composers were invited to create an original work for an instrument associated with a particular country or culture. Each instrument was selected based on it's seminal role in the music and dance of that region. Featured tracks include Nan Avant's "Tributum" performed by Kevin Auld on bagpipes and Eliot Grasso on Uilleann pipes, Lonnie Mardis's "El Espirito de la Cancion", with Chuck Deardorf on the double bass, Todd Kovell's "Suite for Tar and Chamber Orchestra" with Shouri Pourahmadi on the Tar, a stringed instrument popular in Iran and the Caucasus, Catherine Grealish's "For Those Who Have Walked Ahead" with Greg Powers playing didgeridoo, Tim Huling's "The Ballad of Sylvester Jordain", with Tom Dziekonski on the fiddle, Eric Nielsen's "Africa Dances, Africa Dreams" with Arturo Rodriguez on hand percussion, Jason Staczek's "Lila Sziv" with Paul Beck on cimbalom, and Glenna Burmer's "Spanish Dances," with James Howard and Danny Godinez on Flamenco guitar and Ana Montes as the Flamenco Dancer.
