Over the years, singer-songwriter Greg Dember's musical path down the mountainside has been a swerving one, taking in detours to include chamber pop, post-rock improvisation, a bit of quirky nerd rock, and Ben Foldsian piano romps, in a series of band and solo projects. All during this journey, though, he carried a small precious package of simple folk songs, songs dreamed up around the campfire when he first started writing, songs that were perhaps too earnest or emotionally straightforward to expose to the acerbic weather blowing across the descending trail. Greg says : 'Ten Thousand Things is a collection of songs, never recorded before now, that I wrote in my earlier days of songwriting. The project actually began with the intention of simply creating a definitive studio version of one song that a friend of mine liked a lot and that she had told me she wished I had recorded. I wanted to put out that song ('Love and Sadness') as a gift to her, and then I just kept digging further back into these old songs until I found myself with a ten-song album. My hope is that I have connected the original spirit of the songs with a fresh 'now' approach to arrangement and production.'
