From post-punk influences such as Joy Division, to a clear love of the holy country trinity of Hank Williams, Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson, this album goes from loud feedback and hollared choruses to songs that sound like they are country standards that are decades old. Threaded between all this you are hit with mariachi trumpets, glockenspiels and odd syntheziser sounds run through space echos. All of this is anchored by a solid base of acoustic guitar, cello, violin and intensely personal (and at times political) lyrics. This album manages to keep you on your toes, while still achieving the feet of creating the dying art of the full-length record that was meant to be played front to back.
