Paul Mooney was a writer, poet, teacher, and songwriter. He also had cystic fibrosis. Paul used his songwriting to express the pain and uncertainty of dealing with cf. When Paul reached the point of needing a lung transplant, he decided to record his songs to share with others. In the fall of 2008, Paul recorded vocal and guitar tracks for six songs at Strobe Studios in Chicago. It was his intention to record all of his music at the Strobe, but he became too ill and the project was put on hold. After Paul's death, his brothers, David and Kevin, discovered these studio recordings as well as the demos he had recorded at home. The brothers started the task of completing Paul's musical endeavor. Together with Chicago musicians Dorian Taj, Bill MacKay and his dear friend Ronda Duvall, they returned to the studio and lovingly completed Paul's album. 'Because of a Woman' is the result.
