Summoner

Mourning work: third album by the Belgian composer and DJ.

Four years after the album "Grimoire" and three years after the major retrospective, the boxset "Works For Abattoir Férme 2007-2011", Pepijn Caudron aka Kreng releases his third official studio album. Of course, a lot has happened since, and "The Summoner" can well be called a break with the past. Not only is it his most personal album: it's about the five stages of grief, because Caudron had to process the loss of some good friends. He expanded the whole thing to include a sixth stage, "The Summoning," to then arrive at acceptance. Inspired by György Ligeti, the first half of the album consists of twelve strings left to themselves and thus create noisy clusters and crescendos, somewhere between denial, anger, action and depression. "The Summoner" is the first Kreng album not made of samples. The second part confronts one with a massive wall of guitars, drums and bass, erected by Belgian doom band Amenra. "Acceptance" says goodbye to the album in peace and very soulful.
