DESCRIPTION

They formed a band, released a string of brilliant singles and a brilliant debut album, then packed all their worldly possessions into a suitcase and set off to conquer the world. Now London-based five piece Art Brut return with their brilliant new album It's A Bit Complicated. Since humble beginnings at the hub of the New Cross DIY scene and the release of their debut album Bang Bang Rock And Roll in 2005, the gilded palace of rock and roll has opened itself up to Art Brut. From the sublime (support slots with Oasis and Ghostface Killah, with Russell Simmons, Gnarls Barkley and Wyclef Jean queuing to meet them backstage) to the ridiculous (spawning Art Brut franchise groups across the globe, including a certain Art Brut 47, AKA We Are Scientists), Art Brut have become America's favourite sons, appearing on the Jimmy Kimmell show, featuring in Spin magazine's Top 25 Greatest Live Acts and reaching number 3 in Pitchfork's esteemed albums of the year poll. Not content with going a getting a great deal closer to the mythical holy grail that is `breaking America' than most other UK bands (and doing it with endearing charm rather than the usual bluster and bravado), Art Brut have been playing rapturously received shows across all four corners of the globe. As well as appearing on the cover of the German Rolling Stone, they're a fixture on the European festival circuit and have played sold out shows everywhere from Russia to Mexico and Brazil. Now they return with It's A Bit Complicated - a record set to elevate Art Brut to the same lofty status they've been enjoying around the rest of the world - and a UK tour, which is set to see charismatic frontman Eddie Argos lead the band on a celebratory jaunt around the country, featuring Art Brut's biggest headline shows yet. Produced by Dan Swift (famed for his work with Kasabian, Snow Patrol, The Futureheads and Franz Ferdinand among others) at London's Terminal Studios, It's A Bit Complicated sees Art Brut picking up where they left off - with a set of songs that are clever, arch, rallying, and most importantly for a band who formed with the dream of appearing on Top Of The Pops, unashamedly pop. While Eddie Argos' lyrics remain front and centre - razor sharp and commanding Art Brut with rigid, comedic discipline - It's A Bit Complicated is bigger, and more importantly, better than anything Art Brut have done previously. From the DIY prog guitar solo on Pump Up The Volume ("Is it so wrong / To break from a kiss to turn up a pop song?") and the hair metal riffs and Weezer-esque backing vocals of forthcoming single Direct Hit ("What's wrong? Scared to commit? Get on the dancefloor it's a DIRECT HIT!") to the coming of age sentiment and squealing guitar of Nag Nag Nag Nag ("I'm older now but refuse to learn / That they were just adolescent concerns"), It's a Bit Complicated is the sound of Art Brut growing up a little bit, while remaining as smart and exciting as ever. Art Brut are very much ready.
