Detroits hatte immer einen besonderen Platz im Herzen von My Brightest Diamonds Shara Nova. Sie wurde in Arkansas geboren, zog aber mit ihrer reisenden Evangelistenfamilie durch das Land und lebte in ihrer Jugend in Ypsilanti, Michigan, einer Fabrikstadt etwa eine Stunde außerhalb von Detroit. Die Radiolandschaft Detroits prägte ihren Musikgeschmack dauerhaft. Jahre später hat der gleiche kreative Magnetismus, der Novas Jugend geprägt hat, sie wieder in die Stadt gezogen, um A Million and One, einen Liebesbrief an die Stadt, in Form einer elektronischen Pop-Platte zu schaffen. Inspiriert von Größen wie Stevie Wonder, Patti Smith, Carl Craig und The White Stripes tat sich Nova mit dem Produzenten The Twilite Tone (Common, Gorillaz, Kanye West) und dem Mixing-Engineer Andrew Scheps (Adele, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Lana Del Rey, Beyoncé) zusammen, um ein abgespecktes und viszerale Album zu erstellen. Von der hypnotischen Anziehungskraft des Album-Openers It's Me On The Dance Floor bis hin zur elektronischen Kakophonie White Noise bricht die Platte neue Wege für My Brightest Diamond, die neue und alte Fans gewinnen wird.
