***Reviews*** 'Stunningly Honest songs that sit somewhere between the music of the be Good Tanya's and Gillian Welch' - Chris Long - BBC 'Emma Black brings an original take to Country Folk and Blues with the wisdom of an Old Time Soul and and the kind of beautiful voice that does not come around to often.go see her live!' - Acoustic Reviews 'Where Dark Horses Roam is a refreshing opus, with songs infused with folk and country and thoughtful evolved song writing' Manchester Evening News Biography Emma Black learned her craft as a busker in London, Amsterdam and Berlin, playing in bars, living in caravans on the outskirts of major European cities and traveling the road. In a career that has spanned some 15 years, the consistent high quality of her songs and emotive live performances have gone from strength to strength. After turning down a major record deal with her band The Immigrants, (who played support gigs for the likes of The Indigo Girls and Hugh Masekela) in the nineties, she continued living on the edges of society including time spent residing in a caravan on common land in Manchester, before heading to a remote spot in Wales to ' learn about nature' and develop her song writing skills. Playing occasional intimate shows to initiates and converts around Europe rather than pursuing the mainstream, she built herself a loyal following who have stuck with the evolving sound and direction that led her to record her debut album in 2007. Produced by Paul Hemmings (of The La's and The Lightning Seeds), the evocatively titled Where Dark Horses Roam is Black's first move to bring together over fifteen years of playing and writing. She has been described in the press as melding roots, country, blues, and folk genres and she has been invited to perform on radio in both the UK and the Netherlands. The BBC review of the album simply described her material as 'stunningly honest'. With plans for further recordings and an extended touring circuit in 2010/11 Black will be appearing live in advance of a return to the studio for a new album which will be recorded in the winter of 2010.
