The Marshall Tucker Band, acknowledged as one of the founding fathers of the Southern rockmovement, is celebrating its 30th anniversary as a recording group with a catalog restoration andrelease program. Stompin' Room Only, part of this collection, is the long-rumored and highlyanticipated album of live material recorded between 1974 and 1976. Recorded in London, Manchester(during their only European tour), Milwaukee, and at Charlie Daniels' annual "Volunteer Jam" inMurfreesboro, the album from the original band lineup contained all the hits popular from 1973 to1976 and was originally prepared for release in 1977 by producer Paul Hornsby. In an unusual series ofevents, the album's release was first delayed by Capricorn Records and, ultimately, never released, asthe master tapes could not be found for more than a quarter century. They were recently discoveredin pristine condition, and that long-awaited album, the virtual "holy grail" of jam band music, is nowavailable. The jams on Stompin' Room Only are some of the best ever recorded by the band, and the mix issuch that you can easily pick out George's rhythm, Tommy's bass, Paul's drums, Jerry's flute -- and, ofcourse, it would be almost impossible to miss the screaming guitar of Toy Caldwell on "Ramblin'" orthe maximum overdrive vocals of Doug Gray on that same song. "They were totally at the peak oftheir career at that time," recalls Hornsby. "Carolina Dreams was out and they were riding high. Ithink the band was the best they ever were at that time."
