This is a new compilation of the best of the for Our Children series featuring classic renditions of kids songs by leading artists such as Sting, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bette Midler, Faith Hill, Babyface, and more. Every Child Deserves a Lifetime is a curious thing: where most benefit CDs try to get the biggest bang for their organization's buck by rounding up top-tier talent and sandwiching it onto a disc, Lifetime takes the arduousness out of the process--the producers lightened their workload by digging for material on sister CDs in the rock-star studded For Our Children series. Essentially, it's a best-of best-of; to get the concept, you have to think a little meta. But you don't have to brace yourself for a boring run through half-baked songs in the name of a good cause (that cause being the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation). Yes, if you've had kids and an educated ear long enough, you'll know a lot of these renditions--Bette Midler's flamboyantly fabulous "Blueberry Pie" from a vintage "Sesame Street" record is here, and so is Bruce Springsteen's delightfully disgusting "Chicken Lips and Lizard Hips." Will they sound overly familiar, though? Not hardly. Anytime you assemble Bob Dylan, Brian Wilson, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Seal, and Sting and set the proceedings to music, you're pretty much guaranteed a good time.
