The Bala Brothers – Loyiso, Zwai and Phelo – are a household name in South Africa, thrilling audiences with their fusion of operatically-trained voices, rich harmonies, R&B energy and traditional South African melodies and rhythms. Emblematic of the transformations wrought by Nelson Mandela, they are now entering a new, global phase in their career with this CD and DVD, recorded live in Johannesburg.

The Bala Brothers set the audience alight when they headlined at the spectacular concert tribute to Nelson Mandela that was staged at the 55,000-seat Cape Town Stadium in December 2013.

Just under a year later, in October 2014, the three brothers – Loyiso, Zwai and Phelo – recorded this album and DVD in concert in Gold Reef City near Johannesburg. This time the venue was more intimate: the 1,100 seat Lyric Theatre, which has a crimson-and-gold auditorium that evokes the world’s great opera houses. The video was recorded specially for the US TV channel PBS. It opens the way to global fame for the Balas, already a household name in South Africa.
