SOWULO is the visionary project of Dutch composer and multi-instrumentalist Faber Horbach, whose immersive soundscapes are deeply inspired by the ancient spirituality of Northern Europe and the cyclical rhythms of nature. Using historical instruments and Anglo-Saxon words, SOWULO invites listeners to enter a space of reflection, recollection and ritual.
On 'Niht' ("Night"), SOWULO travels into sacred darkness, the realm of subconscious, mourning and inner calm. Created as a result of personal loss, the album presents the night as a master and the moon as a guide. Titles such as "Asteorfan" and "Sol ond Mani" ("Sun and Moon") are designed from mourning, mythology and transformation, using broken instruments and primal voices to confront the death of the ego and the emptiness left by the loss of light. "Monaþblod" ("moon blood") channels female wisdom, menstruation and lunar rhythm through Micky Huijsmans' powerful and raw vocal performances.
With cinematic depth and ritual strength, 'Niht' becomes a spiritual act of abandonment.
