A Letter to Eje Thelin

A Letter to Eje Thelin ist eine Hommage der Göteborg Jazz Orchestra (GJO) an den schwedischen Posaunisten Eje Thelin (1938–1990). Im Mittelpunkt steht dessen letzte Suite „Raggruppamento“, die nun erstmals so umgesetzt wird, wie sie gedacht war – mit der Posaune als Leitstimme. Solist ist Nils Landgren, der als junger Musiker selbst bei der Uraufführung 1989 dabei war und heute als prägendster Interpret von Thelins Musik gilt. Neben „Raggruppamento“ enthält das Doppelalbum das eigens für Landgren und GJO geschriebene Titelstück „A Letter to Eje Thelin“ von Georg Riedel – vermutlich dessen letzte Big-Band-Komposition. Die Aufnahmen entstanden im Juni 2024, ergänzt durch ein Interview mit Nils Landgren und Ejes Sohn John Thelin. Die GJO zählt zu den dynamischsten Big Bands Schwedens. Mit ihrem offenen Ansatz, stilübergreifenden Kooperationen und ihrem Credo „Jazz is fun!“ hat sie sich in kurzer Zeit einen festen Platz in der Jazzszene erarbeitet.
