Giovanni was born in 1963 He was one of the founders of Batacumbele and was involved in developing SONGO with JuanFormell y Los Van Van and other Cuban combos of the time. He soon made recordings with Cuban greats such as Cachao, Frank Emilio, Guillermo Barreto,Peruchin, etc. Giovanni was a key figure in Paquito D´Rivera & Arturo Sandoval´s significant recording Reunion (Timba 59787TR), which many critics view as the very best Latin Jazz album of all times.
