In choosing to use a captive steel washer under the axle head, Wolf Tooth has found a way to protect your axle head but more crucially, your frame. The steel washer rotates within the axle but stays secured to the head, meaning that creaks and squeaks are a thing of the past as the steel washer provides intermediary contact between frame and axle.
