Wolfgang Mattheuer is one of the central figures of the Leipzig School alongside Bernhard Heisig and Werner Tübke. With works such as 'Behind the Seven Mountains (1973)', the graphic artist, painter and sculptor is probably one of the most controversial and at the same time celebrated artists of the former GDDR. With mythology, literary relationships and ambitious details, he infiltrates the ideological regulations of the system. The film introduces us the great works of the quiet but sharp picture maker.
