Satirical, critical, talented - William Hogarth was one of the most original British artists of the 18th century. The son of a poor school master made a name for himself as a portrait artist and became famous with satirical copper engravings. In comic and drastic stories, such as the life of a Dirt, he pronounced social and political misalignments of his time. Often copied, Hogarth fought the first copyright law for pictures. Together with today's illustrators and authors, Andrew Graham-Dixon Hogarth's birthplace London and tells about the life and work of the man who is considered the precursor of the modern cartoon.
