Es ist wirklich bedauerlich, dass das überreiche Repertoire der Serenaden und Divertimento-Literatur des 18. Jahrhunderts heute diskographisch und auf dem Podium nahezu unbeachtet bleibt und man sich scheinbar fast ausschließlich auf die immer gleichen Werke Mozarts fixiert. Diese Aufnahme mit dem auf historischen Instrumenten spielenden Ensemble Alraune stellt hier gleich mehrere reizvolle Beispiele vor, die endlich auch mal das Repertoire abseits von Mozart zeigen und dabei zudem noch mit ungewöhnlichen Klangfarben (u.a. kommt ein Englischhorn zum Einsatz) punkten.



The italian Ensemble Alraune is a source of original programs, from the booklet of the CD:” Then,as dinosaurs, the basso continuo disappeared. Just from this moment on,a kind of ensemble developed in a evolutionary struggle to prevail on the musical scene.Everyone knows how things went: Homo Sapiens dominated on Earth, while the last two centuries of the history of music saw - in the chamber field – the supremacy of the string quartet, of the wind quintet and of the piano trio. The interest of musicians which has led to the present edition turned towards the unfortunate chamber ensemble which, noisily born in the middle of the 18th century just during the time when basso continuo was disappearing, were used in the Divertimenti composed in half a century. Soon giving in to the future dominators,as the Neanderthal Man, the Homo of enisova or the Homo Floresiensis did with our direct ancestors. However, it must be said that some of the instrumental ensemble of the XVIIIth century seem to be born artificially just for mockery. How could wetherefore consider for example the Divertimento for oboe, viola and double bass by Michael Haydn with the combination of musical timbre so different from one An other and almost incompatible and a Minuetto composed by off-axis combinations of two archs or deep notes at the oboe which remind the comedy of an operatic character interpreted by a buffo bass?”
