My husband David Segal is a professional violin maker. Born in Israel, he is a second-generation instrument maker. The son of Mendel Segal, he graduated from the International School of Violin Making in Cremona, Italy. This small, charming town since 16th Century was a hometown to the greatest luthiers, a crafts passed on from father to son in the families of Andrea Amati, Antonio Stradivari, Giuseppe Guarneri and many others. It still is THE place for violin lovers. There are instruments everywhere, in shops windows, hanging in rooftops, drying in the sun. This CD was recorded to showcase the beautiful sound of two instruments made by David. LIsteners are so accustomed to top violin soloists playing centuries-old instruments made by great violin makers such as the Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati families that it's distinctly heartening to find that new instruments are also being used - and that they're clearly of high quality.
