PRODUKTBESCHREIBUNGEN
"She is without question a singer to look out for, not just now but for the next several decades. Claire displays startling maturity of purpose and understanding." -Bruce Crowther, Swing2Bop.com, Jazz Journal (UK) "It is simply amazing, Dickson's melody and improvisation sense at such a young age." -Will Sostre, Jazz Times "And yes, she can scat sing with a frightening intensity that could rival Ella in the future." - John Peters- The Borderland "This kid is a killer and the Great American Songbook's best hope for tomorrow. Hot." -Chris Spector- Midwest Record- Review "This 14-year-old jazz vocal phenom does not sing silly songs! .She has the courage to share her dream, the attitude of a seasoned professional and she must be applauded and encouraged for the pride, joy of spirit, infectious enthusiasm and tremendous talent which she has brought to a monumentally challenging task. She is a talent to watch, and as her voice matures, only the sky can limit what she can achieve as a jazz vocalist." -C.J.Bond, Jazmusic.com "Scattin' Doll" is teen jazz vocalist Claire Dickson's first CD, recorded in two sessions, one when she was 12 and one when she was 13. Twice winner of the Downbeat Jazz Magazine "Best Jazz Vocalist, Junior High Level," she is clearly a jazz force to watch. Scat singing with a natural ebullience, tossing off Charlie Parker heads with playful ease, and reinterpreting the American Songbook melodies as if she wrote them herself, she is performing on a level and with a confidence of a singer twice her age. The album features her trio: Michael McLaughlin, piano; Greg Loughman, bass; Eric Rosenthal, drums; with guest appearances by Dan Fox, trombone; Gary Bohan, trumpet; and Glenn Dickson, bass clarinet. Claire has been singing in public since she was 3-years-old. At age 5 she was the warm-up act for the legendary Von Trapp singers at the venerable Club Passim, where she recently became the youngest solo act ever to headline at the club. She also enjoyed a career in the Boston theater scene, performing with New Rep Theater, Revels, the Reagle Players, and the MIT Shakespeare Ensemble, among others. Claire's love for music runs in the family. She's the daughter of Glenn Dickson, clarinetist/ bandleader for internationally renowned klezmer band Shirim and avant-klezmer band Naftule's Dream. In late 2008, he loaded an Ella Fitzgerald recording onto the family MP3 player and Claire became instantly enamored of Fitzgerald's voice and style. In February of 2009, she began singing jazz. A short 7 months later she recorded four of the tracks on this CD. Within a year Claire was headlining at Ryles Jazz Club and the Lily Pad, followed by Amazing Things Arts Center. Ran Blake was so impressed by her he asked Claire to perform on a concert he produced at Jordan Hall. She also recorded a track on Made in the Shade's new CD, "Stellar Jazz Safari.".
