The Quintet and Beyond 1944-1960

Melvin Howard Torme was een zeer geliefde jazz-zanger, tevens componist (de klassieker The Christmas Song is van zijn hand), drummer, arrangeur en acteur. Hij werd The Velvet Fog genoemd vanwege zijn fluwelen stem. Torme bracht jazz en pop samen, iets wat in zijn tijd nog niet echt gebruikelijk was. Deze 4-cdset concentreert zich op de periode 1944-1960, vanaf het moment dat hij zijn vocale quintet Mel Torm and His Mel-Tones oprichtte tot het eind van de jaren 50 waarin hij meerdere jazzalbums opnam. Met o.a. Artie Shaw en Peggy Lee.
