Mitch Miller was in de jaren '50 A&R-manager bij Columbia, toentertijd het beste poplabel ter wereld, met een grandioze neus voor talent. In diezelfde periode was hij op tv te zien met de zeer populaire show Sing along with Mitch en begon hij platen op te nemen met koor en orkest.
