De Amerikaanse jazzpianist, tevens bandleider, Jay Hootie McShann werd bekend in de jaren dertig met zijn orkest (met o.a. een jonge Charlie Parker) en combos (met een jonge Jimmy Witherspoon). De opnames voor deze rerelease stammen uit 1982 en laten McShann horen met gitarist Al Casey (o.a. Fats Waller en King Curtis), bassist Kenny Baldock en drummer Robin Jones in klassiekers als Going to Kansas City en How Deep Is the Ocean.
