Veel folk- country en bluegrassliefhebbers zal de naam van banjospeler Charlie Poole (1892-1931) bekend voorkomen. Tijdens de folkrevival van de jaren zestig werd zijn werk herontdekt en in de jaren veertig was zijn werk een inspiratiebron voor de pioniers van de bluegrass (o.a. Earl Scruggs).
