Afro-Amerikaanse vrouwen hadden het niet gemakkelijk in de jaren 20 en 30 van de vorige eeuw, maar als het op bluesmuziek aankwam, wisten ze wel degelijk een statement te maken. Op deze cd een aantal minder bekende zangeressen, waaronder Clara Smith, Lucille Bogan en Lil Johnson. In de ruige teksten worden keukenspullen, vis, gevogelte en zelfs kool gebruikt als metafoor voor andere activiteiten.
