Head Rag Hop: Piano Blues 1925-1960

De oorsprong van pianoblues blijft een beetje mistig. Feit is dat de pianisten toentertijd maar moesten afwachten in welke conditie de instrumenten waren die ze moesten bespelen. Mogelijk waren ze daarom ook meestal hele goede zangers, zodat er tenminste n geslaagd element in het optreden was. Diverse steden hadden hun eigen pianostijl: St. Louis, Memphis, Houston, New Orleans. Het einde van de 20er jaren kende een groot aantal getalenteerde muzikanten, waaronder Cow Cow Davenport, Pine Top Smith, Will Ezell, Henry Brown en Montana Taylor, die op deze door Neil Slaven samengestelde box echte vernieuwers blijken te zijn.
