The Acoustic Years 1958 - 1960

Sam Hopkins was een van de grote bluesmen, wiens carriÞre begon in de jaren '20 en tot in de jaren '80 duurde. Hij was vingervlug, technisch zeer sterk en geliefd vanwege zijn vermogen om teksten ter plekke al improviserend aan te passen aan de situatie. In de jaren '50 dreigde hij even in de vergetelheid te raken, maar door een akoestische opname voor Folkways kwam hij terug in de schijnwerpers en werd voortaan als 'folkblues' gekenmerkt. Op deze box staan de diverse akoestische opnames die hij in 1959 en 1960 maakte. Intense opnames, soms verbazingwekkend poÙtisch. De eerste serieuze verzameling van dit materiaal, samengesteld door blueskenner Neil Slaven.
