When the Sun Goes Down 1934-1941

Blueszanger en -pianist Leroy Carr wordt gezien als een van de voorvaders van de urban blues, een genre dat pas na WO II echt tot bloei kwam. In de jaren 30 was Carr een van de topbluesmuzikanten die in zijn korte leven meer dan 200 nummers opnam. Vooral zijn periode met gitarist Scrapper Blackwell was zeer productief, ook qua kwaliteit. JSP brengt chronologisch op twee cds de laatste opnames die dit duo samen maakte. Cd 3 is gewijd aan Bill Gaither & Bumble Bee Slim die in dezelfde tijd voor Vocalion opnam, cd 4 aan de vrienden van Leroy Carr zoals Huddie Ledbetter, Roosevelt Sykes en Tampa Red. Mooie collectie, samengesteld door Max Haymes, en uiteraard weer prima remastering.
