DESCRIPCIÓN DEL PRODUCTO
John Allred, the famous trombone-playing son of a famous trombone-playing father, Bill Allred, performs a swinging blend of jazz standards, some seldom-heard tunes and his own originals, in his first album as leader.

OPINIÓN
This is an impressive first step in the career of trombonist John Allred. The son of trombonist Bill Allred, John has a similar style, based in traditional jazz and swing and sometimes hinting at more modern styles. Accompanied by pianist Johnny Varro, bassist David Stone, and drummer Ed Metz Jr., Allred stretches out on three originals (the blues-with-a-bridge 'Blues for Rich' is most memorable) and such standards as 'Autumn Leaves', Clifford Brown's 'Sweet Clifford', and 'I'm Getting Sentimental Over You'. Betty O'Hara sits in on double-bell euphonium for 'Stompin' at the Savoy'. Fun and swinging music. EDITOR RATING: 4 STARS **** --All Music Guide (Scott Yanow)

This is an excellent CD. Not only every trombonist, but every musician should listen to John Allred and his fine quartet. Once you hear John, you will never forget him. He is on his way to greatness. --Louie Bellson ( composer, arranger, bandleader, and jazz educator)

ARTISTA BIOGRAFÍA
John Allred (born 1962) is an American jazz trombonist. He is the son of another jazz trombonist, Bill Allred. Immediately after graduating high school, John Allred moved to southern California and started his professional music career with the Jazz Minors, a six-piece Dixieland group at Disneyland in Anaheim. During this time, he became active in the Los Angeles music scene, and in 1987, accepted an invitation to join Woody Herman and the Young Thundering Herd. Later, John relocated to Orlando, Florida, playing both jazz and studio gigs. He was then asked to play in the Harry Connick Jr. Big Band, where he toured and performed on numerous recordings and television appearances. In the movie My Girl, he coached actor Dan Aykroyd on how to mimic a tuba player, and recorded the tuba parts for the soundtrack. During this time he also took an active role in his father, Bill Allred's jazz band, played in numerous production shows, and played euphonium with Rich Matteson and Harvey Phillips in the Matteson-Phillips Tubajazz Consort. In 1999, John Allred moved to New York City and has been performing with notable jazz groups including the Toshiko Akiyoshi Big Band, the Woody Herman Orchestra, and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band.
