'Leask brings to his music a compellingly honest baring of the soul' Toronto Star 'Leask writes great songs. I've added him to an amazing group of talent that includes John Prine, Joe Henry and John Hiatt.' Brandon Sun Originally from Edinburgh, Scotland, David is a powerful performing songwriter, who has been building an artistic bridge between the influences of his birthplace and the fresh possibilities of his newfound Canadian home to produce three critically-acclaimed CD's, one Juno nomination and a bag full of songwriting awards. His music explores the diverse landscapes of human emotion while combining the story-telling tradition of his homeland in his own fusion of Celtic Soul & Country Pop. The strength of Leask's songwriting has been recognized by winning 1st place in the International Songwriting Contest, 1st & 2nd place in the Unisong International Songwriting Competition, 2nd place in the John Lennon competition and a list of others - all with different songs. The greatest honour in 2004 was winning the Mississauga Established Performing Artist of the year, an award won previously by Oscar Peterson and Rik Emmett. David's first recording, '100 Camels', was released by Iron Music/BMG and met with rave reviews. His sophomore CD, 'Ancestors Eyes', was equally well received and was nominated for a Juno Award. His latest CD, 'Tightrope of Dreams', captures his highwire walk between the influences of his Scottish homeland and those found in his new life in Canada. The result is his finest work to date. David is a very seasoned and commanding performer, whether playing solo or backed by his 5-piece band. He has shared the stage with such artists as the Waterboys, Barra MacNeil's, Natalie MacMaster, and Bruce Guthro at theatres and folk festivals across the country where he continues to captivate audiences with the intensity of his performance and the disarming honesty of his songs.
