Ian Tyson remains one of the most significant figures in the folk/roots world and in the world of Western music there are few artists who have better sung the stories of the vanishing cowboy tradition. From his early success with Ian & Sylvia in the early '60s and his breakthrough country rock work with The Great Speckled Bird, to his success as a songwriter (Someday Soon, Summer Wages, Navajo Rug etc.) Tyson's solo career has reflected his life as a rancher in Alberta, Canada. Tyson, at 75 is best known for his song Four Strong Winds, writer more than 40 years ago, and covered more than 100 times by artists ranging from Neil Young ( who sings it at every live performance) to Johnny Cash, Judy Collins, Bob Dylan, Bobby Bare, Marianne Faithfull and Waylon Jennings. Tyson's new songs reflect two difficult years as Canada's most iconic songwriter faces the prospect of his senior years. "Growing old is not for wimps", he says and his legion of fans will understand and fight the future with him.
