Awesome Wonder is what you get when you combine a charismatic worship enthusiast, a flawlessly tight band, and a knockdown-dragout choir. Complete with soaring soloists, an interactive congregation, and the heaven-sparked Kurt Carr presiding over the festivities, the Kurt Carr Singers do church in a praisin'-God-forever-and-stompin'-on-the-Devil kind of way. Although the music is done up with all of the pomp and flare imaginable, its content has a simplicity that penetrates the heart to inspire childlike praise. This third project from singer, composer, and producer Kurt Carr has set the standard for declaration of God's power. Even the more intimate moments have heart-rending qualities in their unfolding of God's goodness. But, putting the "Hallelujah!" back into the praise, several of these songs turn up the heat, until the easy-going celebration turns into ecstatic jubilation; this offers the most memorable draw of the disc.
