CBN Newfield, NY Dubbed as the 2011 off the record release of "Let Us Go to Bethlehem,' singer/ songwriter Marc Jonathan Haney, has released, on CD, his Christmas story collection of ten simple love songs. Since it's 1975 release (on vinyl),"Let Us Go to Bethlehem" has been part of the soundtrack for Christmas season celebrations in families across the country.The enjoyment these songs have provided to listeners over the years has outlasted most of the phonographs on which they were first played. Marc began writing the first of these songs at the age of 17 while he was in high school, living in Holton, Kansas. " Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat' and 'Godspell' really captured my attention and showed me the powerful potential that exists in using a contemporary style of music to tell an old familiar story from a slightly different perspective." The resulting project was first called "Joseph's Song," and the first performance was given December 15, 1973 at the First Christian Church in Holton, Kansas. A move to Kansas City, Missouri in the spring of 1974 also moved Haney into the company of a number of talented and experienced musicians that would end up skillfully and generously contributing their talents to this recording. After the ten tracks were recorded, Let Us Go to Bethlehem was mastered at Omaha's Sound Recorders - at that time enjoying the success of the "C.W. McCall -Convoy" project which would eventually lead to the even more successful Mannheim Steamroller projects of Chip Davis. In one of the album's earliest reviews, Michael Stacy of Harmony Magazine described it as a "smooth blend of acoustic tunes," enjoyable and lacking "the Yuletide rut." He went on to say that "because of Marc's different approach to presenting our Savior's birth, you can play the record year round without family and friends thinking you're off your rocker."
