Selim Palmgren wurde zusammen mit seinen Zeitgenossen Sergei Rajmaninow, Alexander Glasunow und Jean Sibelius zu einer Professur an der Eastman School of Music eingeladen und galt zu seiner Zeit als ebenbürtig mit diesen Komponisten. Zu Palmgrens Lebzeiten wurde seine Musik veröffentlicht und häufig aufgeführt, wodurch sie große Popularität und Anerkennung erlangte. Heute ist er weitgehend in Vergessenheit geraten, sodass wir durch Jouni Someros Projekt, Palmgrens gesamtes Klavierwerk aufzunehmen, ein umfassenderes Bild von der Musik dieses faszinierenden Komponisten erhalten. Von virtuosen Konzertetüden bis hin zur bemerkenswerten Vielfalt in den „Zehn Stücken“, Op. 79, enthält dieser achte Teil der Reihe fast ausschließlich Weltersteinspielungen.
