String Quintets Op. 60

This is the world premiere of the complete set of the surviving Quintets with two violas by Luigi Boccherini. This album also includes another world premiere, that of the Quintet by Claudio Valenti inspired by Boccherini and filling the gap left open by the lack of one of the six original quintets. Boccherini dedicated this set of works, along with op. 62, to one of his main patrons, Luciano Bonaparte, but it has been argued that these Quintets (featuring, untypically for Boccherini, two violas instead of two cellos) may have been created as string sextets in the early 1780s.
