This album includes the second and third organ symphony collectively published as Widor’s op. 13. They perfectly demonstrate the symbiosis existing between Widor’s compositional genius and the Cavaillé-Coll “symphonic” organs. Without the opportunities offered by the new organs, Widor would never have had the possibility of creating full symphonies, worth orchestrating, for just one instrument – albeit a very special one, such as the organ. Listerners of this CD will appreciate the timbral variety, technical complexity and creativity behind them.
