That this 1968 release is Regis's only pop-vocal album says something about its overall quality and lack of commercial acceptance. One CD that you won't mind seeing end after 26 minutes, It's Time for Regis! captures none of the guy's unique meld of the exuberant and the wiseacre. Instead, it finds him tonelessly negotiating the likes of "Mame," "Swanee," and a combo of "Toot, Toot, Tootsie (Goodbye)" and "Baby Face" that comes off not so much like a medley as the musings of a man who can't remember which song he's supposed to be singing. As for the absurdly schizoid production, a meld of rinky-tink tempos and half-hearted pop-country moves, let's just say that it represented a boldly over-the-top aesthetic stance in the year of the "White Album" and Beggars Banquet. --Rickey Wright
