Very much like the Jones brothers, the exciting Eubanks-dynasty is successfully making their way out of Philadelphia into the international jazz scene. Trumpeter Duane, the youngest member of this musical family, is on his way to compete with the best of his peers. This, his second album, is ample proof of a great talent, displaying superb dexterity and melodic imagination, equally demonstrated in his playing as well as in his compositions. Miles Davis, Lee Morgan and Blue Mitchell seem to have served as the trumpeters most noteworthy sources of inspiration. 'Second Take' is an amazingly light, yet thrilling set, where freedom of musical expression seems to have been the order of the day. Not that this is an album of free jazz' per se, for it contains some well structured tunes at the disposition of the seven musicians featured alternately within the program.
